Longitudinal hazards. It is not the hazard that cuts across the road that is so bad. It is the hazard that runs along/down the road  . . . like this mud and water running down this steep incline.

First the half buried rock (A) causes a bad choice of line, then the skid (B) and with no good surface in sight . . .  whammy, into the ditch!
